Things to Do

Of course there’s cinemas, swimming pools, museums, wildlife parks and marine centres in a number of the towns of the South Hams.

There are sports and activities a plenty, for adults and children alike, many listed on the activities page.

There are time specific things to do, who could resist duck-racing at South Pool at Easter, the Christmas Steam Train & Pantomine at Kingswear in December and the numerous regattas in the Summer months – these are all listed on the Events page as the details get released.

There are themed events too, photography courses, painting weekends, walking trails etc.

Children are not forgotten in the South Hams – start them sailing at the ICC, powerboating at Salcombe Powerboat School , horse riding at , or surfing at

Shopping is fabulous in Salcombe and Kingsbridge. clothes and household goods (all a little bit different), cafes and deli’s, galleries and chandlers – great for a day out meandering round the shops and stopping for a bite to eat.

It’s coming up to high-tide, can there be anything else to do in Salcombe but join in with the crabbing?  Grab a line, a bit of old bacon and a bucket then waste a few hours at the waters edge catching crabs, or just watching everyone else do it.  Try Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers too, or Stoke Gabriel (featured in the Guardian as being one of the UK’s top crabbing hotspots!) – you can grab a bite to eat too at The River Shack

That said, I list below some of our favourites that aren’t covered by any of the other catagories, the list is by no means exhaustive (we’ve been coming to the area for 12 years and we’re still discovering new stuff!) :-
