Welcome to Hope Thatch
We’d like to share with you our love of Hope Thatch, Malborough and the South Hams. The pages of this website give all the detail you’ll need to decide on a holiday, but we thought we’d use this space to share our passion for the cottage and the area.
Hope Thatch is centrally located within the beautiful South Hams, close to so many places of interest that there’s never time to get bored regardless of the weather or season.
Summer offers beaches, watersports, boat trips, regattas, barbecues, National Parks, and the fabulous hustle and bustle of summer visitors. But the South Hams is truly a year round area and winter can be a magical place, bracing walks, great food and the smell of real fires in the air evoking images of the smugglers of a bygone era. There’s plenty going on all year as you can see from our events page, the shops and restaurants remain open throughout, and the seasons all bring their own attractions – Christmas with Thomas in Kingswear, New Year revelry, duck racing in the spring, Halloween in the National Trust properties and bonfires and fireworks in various villages.
If you just fancy relaxing, then try some of the following:-start the day at Salcombe bakery for the first bread, grab a coffee by the quay and watch the harbour spring to life, take a relaxing walk at Hope Cove, stop for lunch at Sharpham Vineyard, take in the shops of Salcombe and Kingsbridge, before heading back to Malborough for a nightcap in The New Inn or The Royal Oak. Finally retire to Hope Thatch, our lovely Grade II listed cottage, and curl up on the sofa with a good book in front of the log burning stove.
Hope Thatch, Malborough and The South Hams – great for couples, families and groups alike.
